A quarter of Conservative electors believe that Home Secretary Suella Braverman should resign in the wake of a controversy surrounding her management of a speeding offense.
According to a survey conducted yesterday by YouGov, 25% of Tory voters believe Ms. Braverman should resign, while 44% believe she should remain in her position.
41% of respondents believe she should resign, while 22% believe she should remain in her Cabinet position.
Rishi Sunak continues to contemplate whether or not to launch a formal investigation into whether the Home Secretary may have violated the ministerial code.
The Home Secretary has been accused of asking government employees to help her organize a private driving awareness course in order to avoid receiving points on her license for speeding.
She stated yesterday that she had paid the fine and accepted the points, adding, “I never attempted to avoid sanction.” She added that she was “confident that nothing untoward has occurred” during the investigation of the offense.
Mr. Sunak spoke with Sir Laurie Magnus, his ethics counsel, and Ms. Braverman directly about the matter yesterday, but the Prime Minister has not yet decided whether an investigation will be conducted.
