Hon Haruna Wakili, Grassroots Politician 2023

Hon. Haruna Wakili was born into a noble family of a late 18th and 19th century caravan chief in Kano, Madugu Tanko na Gago.

Hon Haruna is a grassroots politician and businessman who rose to prominence owing to his commitment to democracy.

“Only democratic process can easily obtain the desired progress and development in the society,” he argues. Hon Wakili observed, “whoever wants to know you; does so through the reflection of your ancestors,” in respect to his father, Kabiru Haruna Sanka.

Thus, my father’s Agalawa clan paternal side and Wangarawa who introduced Islam to Kano maternal side have validated his purity and lowly heritage.

My mum is a Lambu Yolawa Fulani from Tofa local government. He says, “The blood of aristocracy and royalty flowing down to me and the blessings and protection of Almighty Allah made me stand.”

Hon. Haruna Wakili, who unofficially entered politics at eleven after Gen. Sani Abacha failed to restore democracy in 1996, joined the dissolved ANPP in 2003 aged eighteen.

Hon Wakili’s patriotic passion for his nation and Gen Muhammadu Buhari’s announcement to run for president have inspired him to be a loyalist of every party Buhari joined and a true grassroots politician.

Hon. Wakili, 33, became the youngest State Party Chairman and Director General of Campaign Council of ADC 2019 Candidate, HE Salisu Mubarak Muhammad, on December 1, 2018.

He established a robust framework over 482 wards and 44 local Government Areas of the state, demonstrating exceptional leadership.

He enthusiastically accepted the challenge to run for House of Representatives in 2023 under the ADC platform, which has a small political base in his constituency, Fagge, but his opponent, Hon. Haruna Wakili, has become a household name with huge youth and women support.

Hon Haruna founded WAKILI FOUNDATION, which has done many local community social services. Over 800 Sallah clothes were distributed to orphans, tanks of water were sponsored to local communities during Ramadan, local boreholes were repaired, and teaching tools and medicine were distributed to sick but destitute people in the constituency.

Finally, Hon. Haruna Wakili is a role model for Nigerian politics due to his patriotism, excitement, and fearlessness.
