Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, a former vice president of Umno, stated that party president Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s “invitation” to the expelled and suspended members of the party to rejoin Umno was ludicrous and made no sense at all.
The representative for Sembrong stated that he, too, had his reservations about the genuineness of Zahid’s remark.
Hishammuddin stated, referring to the fact that he had been suspended himself, that up until this very day, he had no idea what the real cause was for the disciplinary action that was taken against him.
“As far as I know, he indicated that in order for us to be readmitted, we will need to submit an application. Second, we are going to have to bring it up in front of the Disciplinary Committee, but I still don’t know why the individual was suspended up until today.
Zahid’s call for expelled Umno members to return is ludicrous.
“When I was initially suspended, the Disciplinary Committee did not call for an inquiry or ask me to answer any questions. Therefore, I am not even sure if the sentiments that were conveyed not too long ago were genuine or not.
When he was approached by the media today in the foyer of the Parliament building, he stated to them that “After all, it doesn’t make sense to me, what is proposed may be a reaction, an expression from below (the grassroots)”
Hishammuddin was replying to Zahid’s comments when he recently addressed the 2023 Umno General Assembly. Zahid had stated that the party was always open to welcoming members who were subject to disciplinary action, including those who were suspended or terminated. Hishammuddin was insisting that the party was always open to accepting members who were subject to disciplinary action.
Hishammuddin said that it was up to his fellow compatriots to decide whether or not they would accept the offer, as they had all been suspended or sacked for their roles in the incident.
According to him, individuals who were disciplined by having their employment terminated or suspended did not in fact incur any damages.
